Week 1: Introduction to Scratch
Week 1: Introduction to Scratch
Unit: Introduction to Scratch
This week you will get set up in the computer lab, learn what programming is, and start building projects in Scratch. You’ll explore sequencing, events, motion blocks, and the Scratch art tools. By the end of the week, you’ll design your own maze on a worksheet with a partner and start building it in Scratch.
Weekly Schedule
| Day | Date | Topic | Summary |

Graded Assignments
- BrainPop — Computer Programming (Tuesday) — Complete the video and quiz. The quiz is a daily grade.
- Code.org — Programming with Angry Birds (assigned Tuesday, due Friday 3/20) — Complete all 11 levels plus bonus levels. Late work will receive a one-time 20 point deduction.
Week 2 Preview
Next week you will bring your maze to life by adding keyboard controls and learning about conditionals — blocks that let your program make decisions. You’ll practice conditional logic both on-screen and off, and by the end of the week you’ll understand how programs use true/false logic to respond to what’s happening in a project.
