Quiz Today! Come to class ready to identify clefs and notes on the staff.

Objectives

  • I can use the clef anchor note to identify notes on the staff.

Warmup

Practice identifying notes on the treble clef, bass clef, and piano keyboard before the quiz.

All Clefs — Easy

Treble & Bass

Keyboard

Remember:

  • G clef → anchor on line 2 from the bottom = G
  • F clef → anchor on line 4 from the bottom = F

Count up or down from the anchor to find any note.

  • I reviewed note names on the treble clef.
  • I reviewed note names on the bass clef.
  • I feel ready to take the quiz.

Music Reading Quiz

We’ll practice together as a class first to review treble clef, bass clef, and piano keyboard note reading. Once everyone feels ready, open CTLS Assess to take the quiz.

Early Finishers: Mystery Transcription Round 2

If you finish the quiz early, continue working on the Mystery Transcription. Submit your guesses when you’re done.

Closing

Let’s debrief the week:

  1. Which clef felt easiest to read? Which one still trips you up?
  2. What strategy helped you most — finding the anchor note, counting intervals, or something else?
  3. Where do you want to keep improving next week?

Standards

  • MSMTC8.RE.4 — Support evaluations of musical works and performances based on analysis, interpretation, and established criteria (demonstrating knowledge of notation and clef reading on the quiz).
