Day 9: Record Your Podcast

Day 9: Record Your Podcast

Thursday, March 26th, 2026

Objectives

  • I can set up a microphone and audio interface for recording.
  • I can record my full podcast episode using proper technique.

Warmup: Prepare to Record

Open your finalized script in Word Online. Review it one last time.

Before we begin recording, confirm the following:

  • Your script is finalized and broken into short, readable lines.
  • Your audio annotations are clearly marked (e.g., [MUSIC: Intro — fade out]).

Checkpoint: Warmup

  • My script is finalized and easy to read.
  • My audio annotations are clearly labeled.
  • My intro music is saved to OneDrive.

Work Session: Record Your Episode

Turn in your Final Script

Before we start recording, turn in your final script to the Form linked below. This will allow me to review your script and provide feedback if needed.

Soundtrap

We will use a new app called Soundtrap. Soundtrap has some special features that are handy for podcasting like noise reduction. Login to Soundtrap using the username and password I provide.

We will review the setup procedure together, then take turns recording.

Setup Checklist

  1. Connect the microphone to the audio interface using the XLR cable.
  2. Connect the audio interface to the computer using the USB cable.
  3. Turn the gain knob to an appropriate level.
  4. Position the microphone about 6 inches from your mouth.
  5. Open GarageBand and create a new empty project.
  6. Import your intro music file from OneDrive onto its own track.
  7. Add a new audio track for your voice recording.

Recording Tips

  • Record your script one section at a time. Do not try to record the entire episode in one take.
  • If you make a mistake, don’t stop recording. Be silent for 3 seconds, then re-read the line. We will cut out the mistake during editing tomorrow.
  • Speak clearly and at a steady pace. Avoid rushing through your lines.
  • Stay close to the microphone and try not to move around while recording.

When You Finish Recording

Listen back to your recording. Re-record any sections that sound unclear, too quiet, or rushed. Your goal is to have a clean recording ready for editing tomorrow.

Soundtrap saves automatically.

Checkpoint: Work Session

  • I have set up the microphone and audio interface correctly.
  • I have imported my intro music into Soundtrap.
  • I have recorded my full script.
  • I have listened back and re-recorded any sections that need improvement.

Closing: Next Steps

Tomorrow is the final day of the podcast unit. You will edit your episode — cutting out mistakes, adjusting levels, and adding any remaining sound effects. Then we’ll share the finished podcasts with the class.
