Day 10: Edit & Share

Friday, March 27th, 2026

Objectives

  • I can edit a recorded podcast episode by removing mistakes, adjusting levels, and adding sound effects.
  • I can export a finished podcast and share it with the class.

Warmup: Listen Back

Open your Soundtrap project from yesterday. Listen to the entire recording from start to finish without editing. Take notes on what needs to be rerecorded with the microphone.

You may not need to rerecord every mistake. When we edit, we can cut out small mistakes and long pauses. Only plan to rerecord sections if you have a major mistake or if you want to improve your performance.
You will only have about five minutes with the microphone today.

Checkpoint: Warmup

  • I have listened to my full recording.
  • I have noted what needs to be rerecorded.

Work Session: Part 1 - Rerecording

You and your table partner will take turns rerecording any sections that need improvement. When it’s your turn, you’ll have five minutes.

Work Session: Part 2 - Editing

Mr. Willingham will walk you through the editing steps.

Editing Checklist

  1. Trim the beginning and end of your recording to remove dead air.
  2. Split and delete any mistakes. Find the 3-second silences you left during recording — split at those points and delete the bad takes.
  3. Adjust levels — Make sure your voice and intro music are balanced. The music should be quieter when you’re talking.
  4. Add sound effects — If your script calls for sound effects, find them in the Soundtrap sound library or import them. Place them on their own track.
  5. Add outro music — Use your intro music again or create a short fade-out at the end.
  6. Listen to the full episode one more time from start to finish. Make any final adjustments.

Sound Effects

The sound library on Soundtrap is hit-or-miss at the moment.

Download this folder of sound effects and import any sound effects you need into your Soundtrap project.

Export

  1. Click on the File menu and select Export.
  2. Choose Export as MP3.
  3. Upload the MP3 to your OneDrive folder.

Checkpoint: Edit Your Episode

  • I have cut out all mistakes and long pauses.
  • I have balanced the levels between my voice and music.
  • I have added sound effects where my script calls for them.
  • I have listened to the full episode and made final adjustments.
  • I have exported my podcast as an MP3 to OneDrive.

Closing: Share with the Class

Upload your MP3 file to the discussion post on CTLS.

You will listen to several podcasts on Monday.

Congratulations — you wrote, recorded, and edited your own podcast from scratch!
