Day 35 - Practice Podcast Recording

Day 35 - Practice Podcast Recording

Today's Objectives

  • I can setup a microphone and audio interface for recording.
  • I can record a sample podcast intro using Soundtrap.
  • I can listen back to my recording and identify areas for improvement.

Warmup: Read the Sample Script

Today we will practice recording a full podcast using the sample script. You will write your own full script just like this in the next few days. This sample podcast is just for practice.

Read the entire sample script silently. As you read, imagine how it would sound if you were saying it out loud. Pay attention to the flow of the sentences and the overall structure.

If you finish early, read the script expectations here to get a sense of what your own final script will need to include. You won’t write this today, but it’s good to know what you’ll be working towards.

Checkpoint

I have read the script.

If I finished early, I have read the script expectations too.

Work Session: Review Microphone Procedures and Record

We’ll discuss the setup procedures and recording techniques for using a microphone and audio interface. Then, you’ll record a sample podcast intro using Soundtrap.

Key Points to Remember:

  • Always check your gain levels before recording.
  • Sit about 4–6 inches from the microphone for optimal sound quality.
  • Speak clearly and confidently.

We’ll take turns being the audio engineer and the talent.

Audio Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Set up the microphone and audio interface.
  • Monitor the recording levels and adjust as needed.

Talent Responsibilities:

  • Read the sample script with expression and clarity.
  • Follow the directions in the script for tone.
  • Don’t worry about mistakes — you can always edit later

Closing: Listen to your Recording

After recording your sample podcast intro, take some time to listen back to it. Pay attention to the clarity of your voice, the pacing, and any background noise.

If time permits, we will check out some basic sound effects and editing techniques in Soundtrap to see how we can enhance our recordings.
