Week 4: Music Reading
Unit: Music Reading
This week you stop reading other people’s music and start writing your own. Monday and Tuesday finish Mystery Transcription — nine untitled melodies, a timestamped guess form, and a reveal with prizes for the fastest correct answers. From Tuesday on you build the tools a composer actually needs: the C major scale, then the A minor scale along with the tonic and dominant — the note a melody calls home and the note that pulls back to it — and finally ABA form, the plan that decides which part of a melody comes back and when. You finish the week with an original melody of your own that you share with the class.
